Business for the community

A social enterprise

A social enterprise is a commercial business that operates to serve a social cause. Like other businesses they aim to make a profit and grow. The difference is that a social enterprise reinvests or donates the profits it generates to create positive social change.
We believe in walking the walk. We know that if you want society to change, you have to operate in the way you see the future working. We believe that business can be one of the key contributors to social change in the world. We just have to do it better.

In 2016 when we officially incorporated as CalmFamily, we became a social enterprise to ensure that the business would always run with a social cause and a mission to do good at the forefront of what we do.

A collaborative community

When we say we are a community, it is important to understand why. We consider all of our stakeholders to be an essential part of the community. All of our consultants, partners, supporters, parent members make our mission possible and spread calmer relationships in society. For that reason, we seek to work with the community, listening to what they need and to their voices in regard to how we develop. Even though all of our consultants are fully independent, they work with us and us with them. Collaboration and organisational involvement occurs at every level of the organisation, raising the whole community together. Project teams continue to develop new services, offering a platform for individual voices to be heard more loudly and widely, and for peoples' dreams of having a larger impact on society enabled with our platform.

A learning organisation

CalmFamily provides education to our consultants, for them to provide education to others, so that children are better served to provide education in the future. We call this a cascade of education. It is our societal intervention. We must therefore live and breathe learning. The more we learn, and facilitate the learning of individuals through exploration and play, the more the organisation grows in knowledge and wisdom. Based on ideas by Peter Senge, we have use an adapted model of the learning organisation to run CalmFamily:

  • Cooperative systems approach - leadership works to see the big picture for the organisation
  • Challenging mental constructs through exploration - we are all willing to play, explore and challenge ourselves with new ideas
  • Collective learning - we share learning experiences to ensure the whole organisation benefits from increased knowledge.
  • Continuous personal mastery - we balance the goals of the community with our own, understanding the importance of raising the individual
  • Collaborative vision - we have a clear vision that we share and listen to each other to ensure we are still focused on the same overall goals.
  • Compassion-based leadership - we choose to do business by responding to the world and all humans with compassion

Playful business

We are driven simply by passion. We do what we love here and we love what we do. We seek ways to play in order to create change, and when it stops being fun, we work together as friends, reigniting our joy in it, or supporting each other while we rest. When a game isn't working, we change the rules, we think outside the box, and we explore, until we find a game that does work and reminds us we are simply children playing together.

Do you want to
collaborate, learn and play?
