Rachael Barlee | Edinburgh
I'm Rachael from Days of Nourishment!
I'm an ancient and medieval history graduate, mum of one joyful 3 year old, and a babywearing peer supporter and trained feeding and carrying advocate. I run local monthly Carrying clinic and socials, and founded a postnatal support group called Nourishing New Parents which meets fortnightly to hold space for parents while they explore the difficult feelings and challenges of parenting a small baby.
I have trained with CalmFamily to offer support to parents seeking to better understand their baby's behaviour, development and psychology, through BabyCalm consultations, workshops and classes. I'm also soon going to start studying birth rights and choices, through specialising in BirthCalm, which I hope to offer to families in mid 2020!
I'm an advocate of babies and children's rights, and love supporting parents in their most important job role! I have an interest in environment respecting choices that we can make as parents, and in raising children without the pressures of strict gender roles.

NURTURING NEWBORNS 6 WEEK COURSE - book now!
Do you want to gain a better understanding of how your baby experiences the world and why?
Are you looking for frameworks and practical tools to help you calm your newborn?
Would you like to learn about how instinctive loving touch can build your baby's brain, and strengthen your bond with them?
This is the class for you!
Together over 6 weeks we will explore baby development, taking a research and evidence-based approach to topics such as crying, early sleep and neurological development, alongside practising loving touch through exploration of carrying, holding, positioning and massage, and focus on why it's so beneficial to build loving touch into your interactions with your newborn.
How many family members can come?
Your booking allows for up to 2 family members to come - babies' grandparents are welcome in our class!
Is my baby too old?
This class is perfect for babies of around 0-17 weeks of age, a stage called the Fourth Trimester
Can I book just one week?
No, we know how important it is for new parents to build friendships with each-other in a safe environment, so our group will stay the same throughout the 6 weeks to best support this
Are you baby-wearing trained?
Yes! I have trained with Slingababy as a baby-wearing peer supporter and as a feeding and carrying advocate. I hope to train as a carrying consultant in January
Are you a certified Infant Massage Instructor?
No, while elements of massage are brought into this course, this is not an infant massage course. Instead we explore how different forms of loving touch can benefit our babies and relationships with them - we focus on skin to skin contact, reading and responding to your baby's cues, enjoying the connection and relaxing to get the oxytocin flowing

I'm based in South East Edinburgh, and will be focusing most of my work around this part of town, for now.
I am currently offering private family consultations, for expectant parents and parents of babies. These would usually focus on a workshop subject - antenatal preparation, newborns and fourth trimester, baby calming tools, calmer sleep, or calmer weaning. Get in touch to book!

In addition to sling support it's just nice to chat to Rachael about general baby issues and as a fellow mum she is just very supportive"
Rachael was so knowledgeable about all the different sling styles and had endless patience when showing me how to use a selection she had to try.. It's honestly made such a difference to my post partum mental health"
