Introducing the Weego TWIN carrier

We have 6 Weego TWIN carriers available to hire at It’s A Sling Thing: part of CalmFamily. They’re so popular they’re usually hired for months at a time, only back with us long enough to be washed and dried and sent out to their next user. This article takes a look at one of the carriers that is often referred to as a “lifesaver” by twin parents.

Weego TWIN carrier: features and functionality

Age and size of baby

The Weego TWIN carrier has an adjustable inner pocket system to alter the size and height of the pouches. This mean you can use it from tiny to not so tiny baby stage!  It is suitable once each baby has reached 4lbs.

Most of our customers find it perfect from newborn to around 3 to 4 months old, although some for as long as 5 to 6 months, whilst the babies enjoy being snuggled up close in a womb-like cocoon, which is why many of our customers tend to hire them for 12 week hires which largely cover their ideal use period.

As each pocket is adjusted separately you can change the height of one twin without affecting the height of the other. This is ideal for babies with different starting sizes and rates of growth. You can tailor their pocket to their needs at that time.

Designed for your comfort

The waistband takes some weight away from the shoulders and holds their body close to you.  The height-adjustable ‘comfort strap’ at the back increases comfort by ensuring that the straps don’t slide off your shoulders. You can maintain your natural stance whilst carrying and comforting your young babies.

To comfort your babies

The movement, warmth and closeness to their caregiver that slings provide is comforting, reassuring and calming for babies. The upright position of the Weego TWIN carrier can help with any digestive discomfort that babies might experience.

Cleaning your Weego TWIN carrier

The Weego TWIN is easily machine washable – on low temperatures, and a low spin cycle using a detergent with no optical brighteners, it can even be tumble dried at low temperatures – a must for anything involving newborn babies and doubly so with twins!

Using the Weego TWIN carrier

The Weego TWIN Carrier is a relatively simple carrier to use, however getting two babies into anything can be a challenge. So, here are our top tips for getting it right!

Preparation

Size pouches
Select the row of press studs for the size of babies.
Fasten all four
The row of four prevents the base twisting.

Putting on the carrier

Tighten shoulder strap so the comfort strap moves down your back.

Getting the babies in the Weego TWIN

Put baby in on your weaker side first.

If you have an arm or side you find harder to manouvre a baby with, do that one first.
If you find it trickier to put a baby in your left hand side then do that one first. This means when you are doing the trickiest bit, putting in the second twin, you're using your better side.

It is also worth putting in your most awkward, or currently crying baby first. This may help them to settle sooner, and hopefully allows you to be manoeuvring a calm baby into the second pocket.

Guide legs into place

Guide the first baby's legs through the leg holes of the inner pouch.

Zip

Zip inner pouch closed

Outer buckle

Close buckle on outer pouch collar

Tighten inner pouch

Tighten inner pouch waist strap

Zip outer pouch

Tighten outer pouch collar

Adjust collar, and, if outer pouch seems too large, fold the collar in to give more support to the neck.

Repeat with second baby

Putting the second baby in is a little trickier as you now have to reach around the first baby. However, this time you are working on the side you find easiest.

Safety and fit articles

Our “Carrying safety” article will help you recognise the key safety considerations

You may find our article “Does my sling fit OK?”  helpful for becoming confident at assessing fit and safety.

With these Tips and Tricks you have a great chance of getting you and your twins comfy in the Weego TWIN carrier, but if you are struggling, get in touch, we may be able to offer you advice by email, phone or Facebook message. Or we can book you a Zoom consultation or fit check.

Assess for safety and comfort

If the babies are too low, position the waistband higher, tighten the shoulder straps and try again.

Slumping is a safety risk as it can compromise their airways. Use the adjustments to inner and outer pouch to get the carrier tighter.

Ensure that they are not slumping. Their chins need to be supported off their chest.

If they move away from you when you let go then try to tighten the Weego Twin a little more.

Discomfort in the shoulders and back are often caused by the carrier not being tight enough.

If care is taken to ensure a pelvic tuck it can support a ergonomic “Hip Healthy” position, but this can take more practice to achieve than with other options.
